"A warlock attempts to seal away a powerful and stubborn demon. She wishes to try her hand at a seemingly impossible task, but only time will tell if she will be the one who finally succeeds."

A short game made as a submission for the O2A2 VN Jam 2023 (Only One of Any Asset).

This game is set in the universe of a future game (which will be linked on this page once completed) and Saturn's Vow, but can be played as a standalone experience.

The demon uses They/Them pronouns, the warlock uses She/Her pronouns.

FEATURES:

  • 1 sprite
  • 1 background
  • 1 illustration
  • 1 song
  • 1 sound effect
  • 1k words
  • 2 endings (scandalous!)

(Important Warning: There is a written description of blood and gore, as well as illustrated blood and eye trauma. These are present in the two choices present at the end of the game.)

My previous O2A2 game from last year can be found HERE.

The design of the demon is awesome! The eyes, the teeth, the skin, everything just makes for a really cool design. I wasn't expecting what happens when you choose to seal it away - the illustration of that scene plus the visceral description is so good!

Oh, gosh, this was so delightfully creepy!! Still reeling slightly from the ending -- I chose to free the demon first because I was curious. Probably should not have been surprised at what happened LOL Then I went back to choose the other option AND IT WAS EVEN MORE HORRIFYING THAN THE FIRST??? Was not expecting that LOL Gave me a good jump (in a good way).

ANYWAY. I love how from the start, we're immersed in this dark mysterious world and can practically feel the heavy ominosity dripping off of everything, from the beautifully done BG of the castle night scene to the somewhat otherworldly and imposing music. You just know that some Serious Stuff went down here -- and that more is about to happen, too. Then the wonderful build-up to the first time we see the demon! And gosh, is their sprite so beautifully done!! All the little details??? And the deeply unnerving expressions GOD. I felt nervous with everything they said, I will admit. It was also a nice touch that the sprite itself was so big? Like, practically taking up the whole screen. It really makes us as the warlock feel very small in comparison, particularly when the demon starts taunting us.

The descriptions of the horrors that follow after both choices is good, it really sent chills down my spine. Like. That moment when the music just suddenly drops. It was very well done. And GOD *THAT* EXPRESSION OF THE DEMON. I think that's going to be burned into my retinas for a while LKDAJFLAKS It was incredibly unsettling. I'm left wondering if this could really be the end??? Like, is the demon truly gone now?? Something about the whole vibe and uncertainty hanging over everything make me question if it really is.

At any rate, this was absolutely fantastic and really left an impression in my mind, from the visuals to the descriptions to just the sheer heaviness of the vibe on my soul dlkajfslkda Loved this a ton!

OMG thank you so much for such a detailed and thought-out comment! That means so much to me!

I'm very glad I was able to achieve the atmosphere and worldbuilding I was aiming for, especially with the demon and how intimidating they can truly be, as well as their unique expressions!

As for what will happen to the demon after this, I'll be sure to answer that in the next game in this story (which is also what this O2A2 game was inspired by!), so I hope this game in particular was enough to give people a taste of what to expect next! Thank you again for playing and for your kind words~ :>
